Application Process

Applicants must submit a completed application form along with all required documents and fees by the specified deadline.

Required Documents:

  • Completed application form
  • Academic transcripts
  • QESE or MCAT scores
  • Letters of recommendation (minimum of two)
  • Personal statement
  • Proof of citizenship or residency
  • Police Record representing the last four years prior to application from the jurisdiction of residence
  • English Language Test Score (if necessary)
  • Application fee receipt

Applications must be submitted by the date advertised yearly. Late applications may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Note: All documents are to be submitted/mailed via an envelope addressed to the Admissions Office, University of Belize.

Requirements

Applicant must have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 grading system in one of the following:

Associate Degree in PreMedical Sciences

Pre-Medical Sciences students are expected to have a solid grasp of fundamental concepts in biology, chemistry, math and physics. A minimum cGPA in the Premedical Sciences program is required for entry into the UBSoM.
UB's PreMed Science Program

Bachelor Degree in Biology or Chemistry

Biology majors are expected to grasp fundamental concepts like cell structure, genetics, and evolution, and understand organismal biology and ecological principles.
Chemistry majors should understand core concepts such as chemical reactions, molecular structure, and the principles of organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry.

Regional/ International Examination

Two passes in GCE A Level with at least a B, or CAPE, with at least a Grade II with one pass in GCE A Level with at least a C or CAPE with at least a Grade III (Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics – the fourth subject should be a pass at GCE O Level or CXC General Proficiency) or their international equivalents.

Applicants not meeting the above academic eligibility criteria must meet the testing requirements.

Applicants must provide scores from either the UBSoM Qualifying Entrance and Scholarship Examination (QESE) or the MCAT.

  • QESE: Minimum required score is 320
  • MCAT: Minimum score of 500 is recommended.

Selection Criteria

The following criteria will each receive a score. The highest scoring applicants will be accepted.

  • Academic Performance: Academic transcripts and test scores.
  • Interview Performance: Assessment of the candidate’s suitability based on the interview.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Quality and relevance of the recommendations.
  • Personal Statement: Clarity, motivation, and alignment with the mission of UBSoM.

Registration and Orientation

Registration: Accepted students must complete the registration process by the date indicated in the acceptance letter

Orientation: All new students are required to attend the orientation program, which provides an overview of the curriculum, expectations, and resources available at UBSoM.
