Social Security Board Scholarship

Belize’s Social Security Board offers associate degree scholarships annually to deserving recipients. Recipients choose the tertiary institution that they wish to attend.

Six CXC Passes Financial Aid
The Government of Belize honors all Belizean high school graduates with six or more CXC passes with grades of 1, 2, and 3 with a financial aid grant every semester worth $300.00 in any two-year Associate Degree program. Mathematics and English A must be two of the six subjects passed. All passes must be done in one sitting. To maintain this financial assistance, students must earn a 2.5 GPA in the first semester and successfully pass the second semester. Students must provide the Ministry with a grade report every semester. Students with six CXC passes as described above should report to the Accounts Receivable Office at UB with proof of their passes to register for this financial assistance. Scholarship recipients must contribute 120 hours of community services before the completion of their Associates Degree. They should contact the student affairs office for assistance organizing their community service.

  • High School graduates with 6+ CXC passes including Math & English at the General Proficiency Level
  • Associate Degree students who have completed 30 credits of course work
  • Students taking a full time load of classes
  • GPA of 2.5 or above
Second Year Associates Financial Aid
The Government of Belize offers special financial assistance to all Associate students during their second year of study. To maintain this financial assistance, students must earn a 2.5 GPA. Students must provide the Ministry with a grade report every semester. The financial assistance is $300 per semester and is paid automatically into the student’s account by the government. Students should check with the accounts receivable office at [email protected] to confirm how this assistance reduces their total UB bill every semester. Recipients must contribute 120 hours of community services before the completion of their Associates Degree. They should contact the student affairs office for assistance organizing their community service.

  • Full time second year Associate Degree students
  • Associate Degree students who have completed 30 credits of coursework
  • Students taking a full time load of classes
  • GPA of 2.5 or above
Education Majors Tuition and Fees Scholarship
Students enrolled in the Associate Degree in Primary Education and the Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education receive a full scholarship including tuition, fees and books. These students must take a minimum of 12 credits every semester unless they have less than 12 credits to finish their Associate Degree and they must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher. The Office of Accounts automatically calculates students’ credits completed and bills the government for their tuition once they complete 33 and meet the other requirements stipulated above. Students must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA, provide semester grade slips to the Ministry of Education and render 120 hours of community service before the completion of the degree. Recipients can contact the student affairs office for assistance organizing their community service. Students can apply for these scholarships directly from the Ministry of Education’s webpage.

  • Students accepted into the Associate Degree in Primary Education or the Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education programs
  • Must be in good academic standing (minimum G.P.A. of 2.5)
Minister of Education and Area Representative Scholarships
The Government offers over 125 Bachelor’s tuition scholarships every year to UB students via their area representatives or the Minister of Education. These are based on priority areas of national development as determined by the Ministry of Education every year. Students apply by filling out an application form available at the Office of their Area Representative or directly from the Ministry of Education’s webpage. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, academic strength and a dedication to national development. These forms are always available and the deadline is early in the summer. The Ministry posts the deadline every year on its Facebook page. Scholarship recipients must contribute 120 hours of community services during their UB Studies and must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
Ministry of Health Tuition Scholarship
The Ministry of Health receives scholarship applications for students enrolled in the Bachelors in Nursing and the Certificate in Practical Nursing programs. Successful applicants are expected to sign a bond with the Ministry of Health. The Ministry of Education covers tuition costs and the Ministry of Health covers the cost of fees for the Bachelor students. The Ministry of Health covers the full cost for the Certificate Applicants. The scholarship may be awarded for the entire four years of the program or for a lesser period of time depending on the time when the scholarship is awarded. Students must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA, provide semester grade slips to the Ministry of Education and render 120 hours of community service before the completion of the degree. Recipients can contact the student affairs office for assistance organizing their community service.

  • Students enrolled in or applying into UB’s Bachelor Degree in Nursing Program.
  • Students enrolled in or applying into UB’s Certificate in Practical Nursing Program.
  • Must be in good academic standing (G.P.A. of 2.5 or above)

Belize National Teachers Union Scholarship

The Belize National Teachers Union receives scholarship applications for students enrolled in education programs at the Bachelor’s level. Students must be practicing teachers and members of the union. Students must be attending full-time and have an approved study leave. Successful applicants are expected to sign a bond agreement with the union. The scholarship is for tuition and does not cover courses from the Associate level. Students must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA, provide semester grade slips to the Ministry of Education and render 120 hours of community service before the completion of the degree. Recipients of the scholarship can contact the Office of Student Affairs for assistance in organizing and providing their community service.

  • An official transcript
  • Two BTB recommendation forms, a page which describes personal career goals and aspirations
  • Proof of Belizean Citizenship
  • Copy of the acceptance letter into the Tourism Program at UB
  • Must attend UB full-time

  • Applicants must be female Belizean citizens wishing to pursue a Bachelor Degree in Tourism Management
  • Certified copy of their Associates’ Degree
