Admission Requirements

General Requirements
  • International students must meet the General Admissions Requirements, where applicable.
  • Review student permit requirements on the Government of Belize Immigration Department website: Student Permit Information.
  • Alternatively, email the Immigration Department at [email protected] for inquiries about student permits and visa requirements.

English Language Proficiency
  • Applicants from countries where English is not the official language must provide evidence of adequate English competency.
  • Proof may include tests like TOEFL (score of 87 or above) or IELTS (score of 5 or above) or an equivalent.

Academic Credentials
  • All academic credentials must be Translated into English AND evaluated by an international credential evaluation agency.
  • Recommended agencies: Josef Silny & Associates, Inc. & World Education Services (WES)

Proof of Financial Support
  • Students must provide proof of financial support for the entire duration of their program.
  • Submit an official letter from a bank or financial agency along with the admissions package.

Application Fee Payment Methods

International students can pay the application fee using one of the following methods:

  • Credit Card: Request the Credit Card Authorization Form from the Director of Accounts Receivables, Mr. Orlando Palma, at [email protected].
  • International Postal Money Order: Submit the money order along with your admissions package.
  • International or Foreign Cheque: Make the cheque payable to the University of Belize.

Note: Pay the application fee after submission of your application.

Visa Application Process

  1. Acceptance Letter:
    • Obtain an official acceptance letter from the University of Belize School of Medicine. This letter is essential for your visa application as it confirms your admission and intent to study in Belize.

  2. Visa Application Form:
    • International students seeking enrollment must meet the General Admissions Requirements, where applicable, and should review the student permit requirements from the Government of Belize Immigration Department website (https://immigration.gov.bz/permits/student-permit/) or email the Department at [email protected] to determine student permits and visa requirements for the citizens of various countries who wish to study in Belize.

  3. Passport:
    • Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Belize. Include clear copies of the passport's bio-data page and any other relevant pages.

  4. Photographs:
    • Provide recent passport-sized photographs that meet the specifications outlined by the Belizean embassy or consulate.

  5. Proof of Financial Support:
    • Submit evidence of sufficient funds to cover tuition fees, living expenses, and other costs while studying in Belize. This can include bank statements, scholarship letters, or financial guarantees.

  6. Medical Examination:
    • Provide recent (not more than 6 months) medical report including the following vaccinations: ________________

  7. Police Clearance:
    • Obtain a police clearance certificate from your home country to demonstrate a clean criminal record.

  8. Payment of Fees:
    • Pay the applicable visa application fees. Keep the receipt as proof of payment, as you will need to submit it with your application.

  9. Language:
    • All applicants applying from countries whose official language is not English need to provide satisfactory evidence that their competency in English is adequate.

  10. Academic credentials:
    • All academic credentials should be in the English Language and evaluated by an international evaluating agency. Applicants are required to obtain and procure the service of a credential evaluation agent. Two (2) recommended agencies are Josef Silny & Associates, Inc. (jsilny.org) and World Education Services (www.wes.org).

  11. Submission of Application:
    • Submit your completed visa application form and all supporting documents to the Belizean embassy or consulate. Some embassies may require an in-person interview as part of the application process.

  12. Processing Time:
    • Visa processing times can vary, so it is advisable to apply well in advance of your planned departure date. Check with the Belizean embassy or consulate for estimated processing times.
