Government

The University of Belize Student Governments (SGs) are comprised of undergraduate students elected to represent their peers across UB's four campuses. As the official voice of the undergraduate student body, SGs work closely with the Office of Student Affairs and collaborate on initiatives like the annual Relathon, La Ruta Maya, and Fun Day. They play an active role in enhancing campus life and addressing key student concerns. Each SG also undertakes a "Legacy Project" during its term, leaving a lasting contribution to the university. Student governments serve two-year terms, with annual elections held to fill any vacancies. Full-time students with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and in good standing are eligible to run for office.

1. To promote and safeguard the academic and professional interests of UB students and to keep their members informed of all activities being offered by the Student Government on any matter of importance and urgency affecting UB Students.
2. To consider and make representations to appropriate authorities on matters of student's interests and to be part of the university's decision-making process.
3. To promote the achievement of high professional and ethical standards among the students of UB.
4. To sustains a university culture which fosters students' holistic development.
5. To promote unity and improve relations among students, faculty, staff, administrations, and the Board of Trustees of UB.
6. To be cognizant of and monitor UB policies affecting students' lives to ensure that they serve the best interests of students and the university.
7. To promote and safeguard the autonomy of the university.
8. To promote the quality of student life through social interactions, educational programs and activities, elections, student recognition, evaluation of university services, cultural events, adequate infrastructure, and community service projects.
9. To establish traditions that nurture student loyalty and pride in UB (and those that also promote cultural, regional, and international diversity).
10. To maintain transparency and accountability in the use of students' funds.
11. To establish and sustain a system of funding student clubs and organizations as well as student projects.
12. To assist in establishing and nurturing a safe learning environment in which students can learn by encouraging civility, tolerance, and denouncing misconduct and discrimination.
13. To promote learning opportunities for leadership development outside the formal classroom and laboratories of UB.
14. To collaborate, along with the UB administration, with Government Ministries and other authorities in education, business science, technology, liberal arts, and other academic disciplines as they become available to achieve the above-mentioned objectives.
