Tourism Training Hub at UB
Tourism is one of Belize’s most vital economic pillars, employing approximately one in every four Belizeans (WTTC, 2022). As the country navigates post-pandemic recovery and contends with intensifying international competition, the demand for high-quality, service-oriented tourism experiences is rapidly growing. However, a significant portion of the tourism workforce lacks formal training or professional certification, relying instead on informal, in-house learning. This gap in service-level training not only limits individual career progression but also impacts national visitor satisfaction and long-term sector competitiveness.
In response to this critical need, the University of Belize (UB) is launching the Tourism Training Hub (TTH) — a dedicated center for continuous professional development in the tourism and hospitality sector. Unlike UB’s existing tourism degree programs that prepare students for mid- and upper-level roles, the TTH is focused on short-term, non-degree, skill-based training, aligned with national priorities and international certification standards.
All programs are certified by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) — a globally recognized authority in hospitality training.
