The University of Belize Recreation and Sports Department is designed to foster wide participation in learning and playing of sports as a foundation to a healthy lifestyle. Students are encouraged to develop positive habits through fun and practice, supporting lifelong wellness.

The Recreation and Sports Unit

The Recreation and Sports Unit organizes intramural competitions and inter-campus events to foster friendly rivalry and engagement within the university community. Additionally, the Sports Unit oversees UB's prestigious Varsity Sports Program, which develops elite teams in basketball, canoeing, football, softball, track, and volleyball. These teams proudly represent the University of Belize in both national and international competitions, showcasing excellence and school spirit.

Show your pride and passion by getting involved in UB sports! Whether you’re aiming to join a Varsity Team or prefer the fun and friendly competition of intramural sports, there’s a place for you to play, grow, and connect. For students interested in scholarships, tryouts for varsity teams happen in May, June, and July, just before the school year begins.

Recreation Center on the Main Campus

Students at the Belmopan Campus can enjoy a wide range of recreational activities designed to support both wellness and relaxation. The weight room is available for fitness training or managing a healthy lifestyle, while the multi-purpose Recreation Center offers space for table tennis, volleyball, and basketball. For a more laid-back atmosphere, the student lounge provides a comfortable space to unwind with games like badminton, chess, and more.

Recreation and Sports on the Distance Campuses

Each of our distance campuses is supported by dedicated Student Affairs Coordinators and Sports Liaisons who help keep students engaged and informed. The Recreation Department also visits each campus once per semester to host training sessions, tournaments, and outreach activities. Contact us to find out more.
